SUMMARY:Ramadan (Begins)
DESCRIPTION:Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar\, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting\, prayer\, reflection and community. It is celebrated as the month during which Muhammad received the initial revelations of the Quran\, the holy book for Muslims. Fasting is one of the five fundamental principles of Islam. Each day during Ramadan\, Muslims do not eat or drink from dawn to sunset. They are also supposed to avoid impure thoughts and bad behavior. \nMuslims break their daily fasts by sharing meals with family and friends\, and the end of Ramadan is celebrated with a three-day festival known as Eid al-Fitr\, one of Islam’s major holidays.

SUMMARY:Pi Day
DESCRIPTION:Pi Day is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world. Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. Pi Day is an annual opportunity for math enthusiasts to recite the infinite digits of Pi\, talk to their friends about math\, and eat pie.\nPi has been calculated to over 50 trillion digits beyond its decimal point. As an irrational and transcendental number\, it will continue infinitely without repetition or pattern. While only a handful of digits are needed for typical calculations\, pi’s infinite nature makes it a fun challenge to memorize\, and to computationally calculate more and more digits.

SUMMARY:César Chávez Day
DESCRIPTION:On Cesar Chavez Day\, we celebrate one of America’s greatest champions for social justice. Raised into the life of a migrant farm worker\, he toiled alongside men\, women\, and children who performed daily\, backbreaking labor for meager pay and in deplorable conditions. They were exposed to dangerous pesticides and denied the most basic protections\, including minimum wages\, health care\, and access to drinking water. Cesar Chavez devoted his life to correcting these injustices\, to reminding us that every job has dignity\, every life has value\, and everyone — no matter who you are\, what you look like\, or where you come from — should have the chance to get ahead.

SUMMARY:Transgender Day of Visibility
DESCRIPTION:Each year on March 31\, the world observes Transgender Day of Visibility (TDOV) to raise awareness about transgender people. It is a day to celebrate the lives and contributions of trans people\, while also drawing attention to the poverty\, discrimination\, and violence the community faces. \nInternational TDOV was created in 2010 by trans advocate Rachel Crandall. Crandall\, the head of Transgender Michigan\, created TDOV in response to the overwhelming majority of media stories about transgender people being focused on violence. She hoped to create a day where people could re-focus on celebrating the lives of transgender people\, empowering them to live authentically\, while still acknowledging that due to discrimination\, not every trans person can or wants to be visible. \nClick here for more information.
